Marcelle M. Wahba and His Highness Shaykh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan
dedicated the new United States Embassy in Abu Dhabi on March 2
2004. The event was officiated by Major General Charles E. Williams,
Chief Operating Officer, Overseas Buildings Operations, Department
of State, who declared the Embassy officially open for business.
The Embassy's United States Marine Security Guard Detachment Color
Guard began the ceremony with the presentation of the American flag
followed by the national anthems of the United Arab Emirates and
the United States. Ambassador Wahba said, "I know I speak for
the President of the United States and all of my predecessors who
have had the privilege of representing our country here, when I
say that this magnificent new structure reflects the depth and breadth
of our relationship with the people and government of the UAE. Under
the visionary leadership of His Highness Shaykh Zayed Bin Sultan
Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, our partnership is stronger than
ever.
Other Shaykhs and Ministers of the UAE government, over 60 Ambassadors,
and other invited dignitaries attended the festive event. Guests
toured the embassy and were invited to a buffet lunch after the
ceremony.
